Peter Bowen secured his best season since 2018-19 when Fairlawn Flyer won the opening 3m3½f conditional jockeys’ handicap chase.

The six-length scorer was Bowen’s 37th winner of the season, one clear of the tally he achieved in his final campaign as a sole licence holder last term.

Fairlawn Flyer’s seventh career victory moved Bowen’s prize-money earnings past £450,000 in his first season training jointly with eldest son Mickey.

“It’s all going well,” said Peter Bowen. “They’ve held their form all season and they’ve been healthy all year. Fairlawn Flyer might appear again on Friday at Ayr, he’d get in there without the penalty.”

The 5-1 winner was Shane Fenelon’s first ride at the track and on the 5lb claimer, who joined the Bowens’ Pembrokeshire stable from Shark Hanlon last September, Bowen said: “He’s been brilliant. He’s good in the yard and deserves a few good rides now.”

Bowen’s son James rode a winner later on the card on the Billy Aprahamian-trained outsider of four Homme d'Un Soir in the 2m1f handicap chase.

Wellington wins

Wellington Arch chased home subsequent Listed winner Fingle Bridge at this track when last seen in January and the Jonjo and AJ O'Neill-trained six-year-old went one better to land the 2m½f novice hurdle under Jonjo O’Neill Jr.

Perfect record

Jamie Hamilton made it two from two on Autumn Return in the 2m5½f handicap chase. Ruth Jefferson’s mare had been pulled up on her last two starts at Cheltenham and Musselburgh but bounced back to form in the hands of Hamilton, who also steered the 16-1 winner to a successful chasing debut at Perth in September.
