Veteran The Paddy Pie rolled back the years again and enhanced jockey Jack Power's terrific record for Joel Parkinson and Sue Smith in the 2m7½f handicap chase.

The 12-year-old struck under Power at Catterick in January and the pair teamed up successfully once more when scoring by a length.

He took the conditional rider's strike-rate for the yard to 50 per cent, with four winners from eight rides – all of which have come this season. Power enjoyed success in front of the ITV cameras at Kelso on Saturday aboard the Lucinda Russell-trained Bold Light.

Parkinson said: "Jack's a very good little horseman and well worth his claim. He's got a very calm head and we'll keep on using him as much as we can.

"This horse is in the form of his life. We might've got to the front a bit too soon and he's not really a three-miler, but he got away with it on that ground and he jumped superbly. He's not young, but he might just go in again."

Whillans winners

Fresh from Cracking Rhapsody's second Morebattle Hurdle win, trainer Ewan Whillans struck with Luminaries in the opening division of the 2m4½f novice handicap hurdle.

Whillans said: "It's been an absolutely brilliant few days. This lad had a big ulcer and it's just taken a bit of time to get him back, but we've always thought he's a horse who's capable of running a big race."

The eight-year-old's 20-1 success was also winning rider Sean Quinlan's 50th victory of the season.

Trainer in form

Stuart Coltherd took his strike-rate to 33 per cent in the last fortnight when Flash Du Pistolet landed the 2m4f novice handicap chase.
