Robin van Persie was a key part of the Feyenoord team that beat Inter en route to winning the Uefa Cup in 2002 and now, in just his second match as manager of the Dutch side, he must welcome the Nerazzurri for a belated reunion in this Champions League round-of-16 tie.

The hosts managed an unlikely victory over Milan in the playoff round under caretaker boss Pascal Bosschaart, aided by a second-leg red card to Theo Hernandez.

Their reward is a meeting with Inter, who have lost just one Champions League game this term and finished fourth in the group stage.

Simone Inzaghi’s men conceded only one goal in eight games, in a 1-0 away defeat to Bayer Leverkusen, and beat Arsenal, RB Leipzig and Monaco.

However, Inter are a side fighting on three fronts and the effects of that have started to show in their performances.

They are narrowly leading the way in Serie A but missed the chance to pull away from Napoli at the weekend when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Antonio Conte’s men, while they also face rivals Milan in the Coppa Italia semi-final next month.

However, whatever issues Inter have pale into insignificance in comparison with Feyenoord, who are in the midst of a major injury crisis.

Van Persie will be unable to call upon as many as 14 first-team players for this clash and eight of their substitutes against NEC at the weekend were aged 20 or younger.

Take Inter to comfortably see off the understrength hosts and win by at least two goals.
